The libraries of Terakki Foundation Schools play a vital role as a place which develops and promotes reading, writing and research skills. TVO libraries aim to meet the information needs of all students, teachers and personnel.

Terakki Foundation Schools have provided its students and staff with a modern, comprehensive learning library that contains over 70.000 volumes. Our libraries offer books, magazines, newspapers, audiovisual materials and electronic resources in Turkish, English, French, Spanish and German.

The libraries are equipped with reading rooms and computer sections that support individual works and group works. Our libraries include Internet-connected computers and a printer. The library resources are organized according to international cataloguing rules consisting of "Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules" and are based on the decimal system of library classification "Dewey Decimal Classification". Our users can access digitalized, current library records and electronic databases online.

Libraries of Terakki Foundation Schools offer services between 8.00 and 17.00 every weekday.

OUR COLLECTION

All users can benefit from our “general books”, “reference resources”, “Ataturk books”, “verbal-written resources (DVD, CD, VCD etc.)”, “e-resources”, “periodicals” collections under the rules of library.

OUR SERVICES

In our library, advisory, lending, periodicals service, user training and technical services are carried out by trained and specialist librarians. These services are reinforced by activities and education programs which support the curriculum of the school.

From kindergarten to 5th grade, students take library lessons in order to improve their language and expression skills, critical thinking skills, and international-mindedness.

Reading Time, Information literacy, Turkish and English lessons are conducted in the library environment. Apart from the reading time, students examine and read the books in the library. Students learn how the library is recognized, how they will use the library and how they will conduct research in the library via the program created for Information Literacy and English lessons. Moreover students are able to make connections with PYP inquiry units and enjoy attending interactive activities and projects which emphasis on the cradle of knowledge library .In addition ,various activities including Kindergarten students and “ Reading Story” ,”Reading Fairytales” activities are held in our library.

As for the High School Library, various user trainings have given intended teachers and students. At the beginning of each school year, introduction of the library is done to the classrooms.

Students are reinforced to learn by questioning in accordance with International Baccalaureate Organization-IBO, Primary Years Programme–PYP, and Diploma Programme-DP. Upon creating content for improving their research and reading skills, students are trained about Academic Honesty, international library catalogue and using electronic databases in English.

During the year, on certain days and weeks, interviews and autograph sessions have been held by TVO Libraries where the authors of the books students have read have been invited and book stands have been opened.

In addition, each May, “Library Festival” including interviews with authors, theaters, music concerts, art exhibitions, workshops and book fair activities has been made.
